Salome Arizona John Doe 2004 Identity Confirmed

September 4th, 2024

DNAhawkshaw Genetic Genealogy, in collaboration with multiple agency partners, announces the confirmation of the identity of Salome Arizona John Doe 2004 as James William Hare.

On September 14th 2004, Mr. Hare’s remains were discovered at a motel in Salome, Arizona by a vendor making a monthly water delivery. Though he was known as James Hare, that identity had been ruled out and it was believed he was living under an alias. Investigative genetic genealogical analysis suggested this was not the case, and it was later confirmed by fingerprint comparison that Salome Arizona John Doe was indeed James William Hare.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Hare’s family and friends. We hope that this identification brings them much-needed answers and some measure of comfort during this challenging time.

We are grateful to the Pima County (Arizona) Office of the Medical Examiner and the La Paz County (Arizona) Sheriff's Office for entrusting us with this case.

We also extend our gratitude to our lab partner, Intermountain Forensics, for their exceptional services and for providing a fundraising platform that covered the necessary lab costs.

Finally, DNAhawkshaw Genetic Genealogy expresses sincere appreciation to the agency partners who not only raised the funds from generous donors but also performed the genetic genealogy that returned Mr. Hare’s identity to him and his loved ones.
